Dallas voters will not have to worry about finding safe transportation to the polls this year as the ride-sharing app, Alto will be offering free rides on election day, November 3.
The promotion is especially helpful for young college-age voters. Not all students have a car at college, which can be a hindrance to their ability to get to the polls. It can be especially difficult to find a ride during such a hectic time academically and during the global pandemic.
“It is super hard to coordinate with friends because we are all so busy,” Camryn Maginel, a sophomore at SMU said.
As Election Day is nearing, Alto is passionate about giving voters a safe way to get to the polls and make sure their votes are counted. Alto’s Founder and CEO, Will Coleman, expresses his hope to make voting easier for Dallas citizens.
“Alto is proud to mobilize voters on this important day,” Coleman said. “We hope that this small act of providing complimentary rides to local polling centers will encourage North Texans to get out and exercise their right to vote.”
Alto has taken the ride-share industry to the next level by being the first employee-based company that hires professional drivers and uses 5-star safety vehicles. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alto has taken even more safety precautions to their service, as they disinfect between each ride with PermaSafe, an EPA-registered disinfectant. They also have a HEPA cabin air filter in all vehicles, plexiglass barriers, and require drivers to wear masks and gloves throughout the duration of the ride.
The ride-share company hopes to provide a sense of safety for their customers, while also mobilizing voters on this important day.
Students, like Maginel, realize the importance of being able to go to the polls and cast a vote. “It is important for young voters to get out because we are the future for this country, and we need to do our part,” Maginel stated.
Users can enter the promo code VOTE2020 in the Alto app for up to two free rides, equal to $15 each.
The Alto app can be downloaded in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. More information can be found on the Alto website.
