What to prepare for Sunday’s watch party

For students who are planning on staying in to watch the Super Bowl Sunday, there are many mouth-watering game-day foods that are easy to make on a budget or in a pinch.

One of the most popular appetizers known to all at-home game-day chefs is the mini crescent dogs. These delicious bite-sized snacks are always the first to go and are truly the easiest dish on the menu.

Bloomin’ onion bread, bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers, buffalo potato wedges, flank steak crescent bites, chili cheese biscuits and barbeque pulled pork mac and cheese are also arguably Super Bowl must haves.

Some of these foods may sound complicated to an inexperienced chef, but these are undeniably easy dishes and even cheaper than one would expect. The buffalo potato wedges only have three ingredients and flank steak is one of the cheapest cuts of meat to buy.

Chili Cheese Biscuits: One of the most popular Super Bowl favorites has been reinvented. Now the traditional chili and corn bread combination can be prepped all at once and enjoyed in one bite… a definite crowd pleaser.

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeños: These bacon wrapped poppers are the bomb. The cream cheese mellows the jalapeño’s heat but if you’re worried about these being too hot for your taste buds, take extra care when cleaning out the seeds which are the main spicy culprits. For a different spin on the recipe, consider substituting the cream cheese for mozzarella.

Bloomin’ Onion Bread: Who doesn’t love bread baked in onion-cheesy goodness? This appetizer only takes 20 minutes to prepare and bake and tastes even better dipped in warm marinara.

Flank Steak Bites: It is important to cook flank steak medium rare because it contains extra muscle fibers. Since this recipe calls for cooking the meat twice, I recommend cooking the steak to 135 F so that when the meat is put in the crescent dough and in the oven, the additional cook time lets the meat reach a perfect 145 F. Using this tip allows your steak bites to be tender and not chewy.

Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese

Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese: With two of America’s favorite foods paired together, this dish is the ultimate comfort food. Grocery stores like Trader Joe’s who offer pulled pork pre- prepared, make this dish even more appealing for the inexperienced chef and cut preparation time down to less than an hour.

Mini Cresent Dogs: With only two ingredients, these hearty and tasty appetizers are always the first to go. Try pairing them with less than traditional dipping sauces like melted jalapeño cheddar.

Buffalo Potato Wedges: Balanced with a dunk in chunky blue cheese, these potato wedges are made with a kick, Frank’s Red Hot. Simple and cheap, you can’t go wrong with these.
