The SMU Student Senate voted yesterday at their weekly meeting in favor of hosting a community service event this upcoming Saturday to help clean up the community and support the victims of Sunday’s catastrophic storms.

The event is scheduled to begin around 8 a.m. and end around 6 p.m.; however, the specifics are still being worked out.

First-Year Student Senator Wade Glover proposed the legislation just two days after the Dallas-Fort Worth community was hit by nine tornadoes Sunday night.

Glover hopes the absence of a Saturday football game and the flexibility offered by the long duration of the event will attract student participation.

“As of right now, the most important thing is for students who are interested in volunteering at any time to RSVP on the Connect event page,” Glover said in an e-mail.

Make sure to check the Connect event page as more details become available.
