Student booked by University Park Police after intramural fight

Student booked by University Park Police after intramural fight

A SMU student involved in the Jan. 27 fight in the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports turned himself into SMU Police Feb. 4, according to a statement issued by SMU News and Communications. The student was charged with a Class A misdemeanor and booked into University Park Jail.

As The Daily Campus reported Jan. 29, in an article titled “One student injured after heated intramural game,” the fight occurred between members of two fraternities on campus – Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI). Eyewitnesses claim that the Pike member kicked the FIJI member in the face.

Neither the Pike’s name nor the FIJI’s name has been confirmed. The presidents of both fraternities were contacted by email concerning the incident, but neither have responded.

SMU Police has been running its own investigation of the incident and plans to present its findings to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

The Daily Campus will continue to report on this story as information becomes available.
