Mustangs fall short to Stephen F. Austin

Three Mustangs scored into the double digits Friday night against Stephen F. Austin, but could not come away with the victory.

Samantha Mahnesmith lead the team for the fourth time in the last five games with 17-points, along with four steals and two-assists. Akil Simpson scored 11-points with her 11-rebounds; her second double-double of the season. Kristin Hernandez reached double digits for the third time this season with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Christine Elliott led the game with 12 rebounds.

Twelve of Mahnesmith’s points were scored in the second-half. The Mustangs looked to tie the game with a three-pointer with 1:04 left in the game. The attempt was missed and the Ladyjacks secured the win from the free throw line in the final 18-seconds.

The loss concluded SMU’s non-conference play with a 7-6 record. The Mustangs will host UTEP to begin the Conference USA season Thursday at 7 p.m.
