Mustangs fall 13-27 despite sellout crowd
Coaches Phil Bennett and Mike Leach began an argument thatstarted a two-team tussle after the Texas Tech victory Saturday inFord Stadium. Bennett said he was angry the Red Raiders wereattempting to score despite a 14-point lead within the final fourminutes. As the game ended, Bennett marched across the stadiumfield to yell at Leach with the Mustang team close behind him. Ashe walked away, players from both teams exchanged punches.
Bennett said it was his prerogative to express himself. “Itold Mike I didn’t appreciate how the game ended…Maybeit’s just me personally, but I didn’t want my kidsleaving the field with that feeling,” he said.
Leach said he thought Bennett was disappointed and frustratedafter the match but defended his end-of-the-game choices, saying,”You only get so many plays in a career, in a season. Youbetter make the most of them.”
