MADD hosts alcohol education program

It’s Friday night at around 11:30 p.m., and you strideback into your residence hall with a 30-pack of beer and a handleof the cheapest vodka you could find. At 12:30 p.m., you stumbleout of the driver’s seat of your car. While you thought youwere okay to drive, the officer standing nearby thinksdifferently.

This scene is becoming more frequent.

“There has been an increase in underage drinking anddrinking and driving in the Park Cities area and around the SMUcampus,” Director of the Metroplex Chapter of Mothers AgainstDrunk Driving Youth Programs Velisha Mitchell said.

Because of this, SMU’s Center for Alcohol and Drug AbusePrevention will host MADD’s Alcohol Education Program Tuesdayand Thursday in room 153 of Dallas Hall.

“We want to let minors know that alcohol kills more kidsthan anything else,” Mitchell said.

The cost of the program is $55, with fees going directly towardslocal youth programs sponsored by MADD. For more information or toregister call the Metroplex MADD chapter at (214) 637-0372.
