  • Sophomore Dalibor Balgac won the 1,000 meter run at the Kansas State Invitational. Balgac led SMU in its first indoor track & field competition of the season. Lukas Musil took second place in the race and Amos Skinner placed third in the 800 meter.
  • SMU men’s tennis opened the season by defeating the Cal Poly Mustangs. SMU won 5-1 Sunday afternoon. Johan Brunstrom, Eric Cohn, Gwinyai Chingoka and Henrik Soderberg won in straight sets. Ryan Mauck lost the first set at No. 5 singles, but won the next two sets to take the win. Freshman Peter Oreddson fell to Cal Poly’s Nick Tracy in the No. 3 singles spot. It was the first dual match of his collegiate career.
  • SMU men’s divers Brice Dumais and Beau Sydes competed Saturday at the Speedo American Cup in Bloomington, Ind. Dumais teamed up with Phil Jones to take second place in the men’s three-meter synchronized competition. Sydes and Derek Starks placed fourth in the same competition. In individual competition, Dumais and Sydes finished 14th and 20th, respectively, in the three-meter preliminary event.
  • Elizabeth Pike competed in both the three-meter and platform competition Saturday at the 2003 Speedo American Cup in Bloomington, Ind. In the three-meter prelim, Pike finished 24th with a score of 147.90. In the platform prelim competition, the sophomore from Colorado scored a 189.33 to finish 17th in the event. Pike had qualified for the events during qualifying rounds earlier in the week.
