SMU Men’s Soccer team (12-6-1, 4-3-1 C-USA) is heading to the Conference USA Championship after defeating No. 1 seed South Carolina 1-0 Saturday.
Junior Ben Hill scored the lone goal in the 27th minute, about 22 yards out of the box. The ball came off a corner kick and Hill sent the ball sailing beautifully just inside the right post giving the Mustangs their lead and ultimately their victory.
Meanwhile, on the Mustangs side of the field, goalkeeper Jamie Ibarra held off South Carolina all game long and had his fourth shutout of the season. He said no to South Carolina’s leading scorer in the 55th minute and stopped a corner kick on the line with three seconds remaining.
Who’s next? The No. 17 UAB Blazers on Sunday. The last time these two teams met the Blazers managed to defeat SMU 1-0 at home. However, the Mustangs have been seeing success on the road. We’ll find out Sunday if the Mustangs edge out the Blazers this time round.
You can catch the game on the big screen at 1 p.m. CT on the CBS Sports Network. Or if you’re on the go, the match will air online at NCAA.com at 3:30 p.m.
