The Hilltop Sports Camp is looking for student counselors. The camp runs from June 1 to June 29 and will host children ages 6-12. It will focus on recreational and sports-related activities and will be located in the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.
“This camp will be an opportunity for children in the community to be exposed to SMU and the new recreation center,” said Sarah Donahue, the Dedman Center Aquatics Coordinator. “It will also be a great time for interaction between current students and possibly future students.”
Counselors can apply to work full days from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or half-day morning or afternoon shifts.
Depending on qualifications, counselors will earn up to $10 an hour. Required qualifications include being a minimum of 16 years old, having a valid driver’s license, passing a background test and becoming CPR and First Aid certified by June 1. Additional, but not required, qualifications include being an SMU student or alumni, having experience working with children and having experience with recreational programs.
The camp directors request responsible and dependable applicants that can fulfill roles of leading and interacting with children and monitoring safety. An example of the counselors’ daily duties includes guiding small groups in sports activities, supervising snack and craft time and overseeing campers in the swimming area.
The rolling-basis application process is straightforward and can be found online at www.smu.edu/recsports/hilltop.
