Beginning with J.C. Wetsel in 1936, the Mustangs have had a tradition of sending players to the big league, most recently wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Trey Quinn, and defensive end Justin Lawler.
Sutton, who was the 40th pick in the 2018 Draft, has been making a name for himself in the NFL alongside another Denver Broncos wide receiver, SMU’s Emmanuel Sanders.

Sanders, the 82nd pick in the 2010 Draft, has acted as a mentor to Sutton, teaching him how to adapt to life in the NFL, according to BroncosWire.
The wide receiver duo has been lethal this year, catching a combined 849 yards and scoring five touchdowns for the Broncos.
One of those touchdowns has gone viral.
In a trick play in their Thursday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals, Broncos quarterback Case Keenum pitched the ball to Sanders. Sanders then threw a 28-yard pass up the right side to Sutton in the end zone for his first career throwing touchdown.
Dubbed by the team “SMU Pass Right”, the play honored ‘Play of the Game’ and was named the 5th best play in the league for week 7. Sanders was also named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

The play has garnered plenty of media attention for Sutton, who has shown enough talent through seven weeks with the Broncos to consider trading their other premier receiver, Demaryius Thomas.
The Broncos will continue to showcase the talents of Sanders and Sutton in the remainder of the season. Next up, the duo will travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs on Sunday at 11 a.m.
