Women’s golf headed to Puerto Rico

The Lady Mustangs will open their season this weekend when they compete in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.

After a strong fall campaign, this is a critical meet for the mustangs as they try to continue their ascent up the rankings.

Despite the high expectations of standout Alexandra Rossi the Mustangs will rely heavily on freshman Jenny Haglund, and senior Melanie White.

Haglund, was one of the most consistent players for the mustangs in her opening year, in she led the team in scoring average. Haglund averaged 73.8 with a low round of only 70.

With White, the Mustangs have some explosiveness to them. She shot a blistering 65 in the Johnie Imes Invitational to take medalist honors by 6 shots.

By no means does her coach expect her to open the season with a 65 but if she can play close to what she is capable of, it would certainly be a tremendous boost to the team.

There will be 15 teams in the tournament, including host Purdue. The tournament kicks off Sunday and will stretch through Tuesday before the Mustangs head off to Florida.
