Outside hitter Dana Powell set a personal season high with 20 kills as the SMU volleyball team rolled over rival TCU 3-1 on Tuesday night.

The Horned Frogs were riding a six match winning streak, and it appeared like the streak was going to continue after winning the first set 25-18.

The Mustangs rallied by garnering a 25-23 victory in the second set, as setter Kelli Becerra dished out 11 assists.  SMU had 18 of 45 kills in the set.

The Mustangs broke the tie with a 25-17 win in the third set as SMU held TCU to a 0.65 clip and solidified their match victory with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.

Powell led the Mustangs with 18 digs to notch her eighth double-double of the year. Fellow outside hitter, Kathryn Wilkerson, added a double-double as well with 15 digs and 14 kills.

The Mustangs received a strong defensive performance from Caitlin Adair (6 blocks) and Jessica Oliver (5 blocks). Libero Sidney Stewart recorded 16 digs and helped hold the Horned Frogs to a .165 hitting percentage on the night.

With the win, SMU advances to 8-3 on the season. The Mustangs lead Conference USA in opponents hitting percentage (.178) and blocks per set (2.5) this season.

SMU will travel to Alabama on September 24-25 to begin conference play with two matches against UAB.

The Mustangs have faced the Blazers each year since joining Conference USA in 2005.

In last year’s match, SMU won, 3-0 (25-23,25-22,25-14) in Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs lead the overall series 3-2.
