First-years and returning SMU faithfuls alike will get their first official taste of Mustang football at this Saturday’s annual first weekend scrimmage. Unlike previous scrimmages this season, the public will be welcomed to Ford Stadium this Saturday. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m., and fans are encouraged to sit in the west stands underneath the press box. Concessions will be available in the west concourse on the 50-yard line. Mustang fans can enter the stadium through Gates two, three, five and six. Attendance is free.

This Saturday marks the final scrimmage before the Mustangs travel to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech on Saturday, Aug. 30.

However, the football team is not the only team that has been practicing this summer. The SMU cheer and dance teams will also showcase their spirit and support at the scrimmage. Also new this year, SMU Spirit will unveil its 12-member all-girl cheer squad.

“We’re all really excited about this year’s team,” sophomore all-girl cheerleader Ashley Whisnant said. “We can’t wait get out and support the [football] team and also show our fans what we can do as a new squad.”
