Not only do students still complain about having final exams on weekends, but also about the brevity of study days that students are given – we’re only given two at SMU.
Well, stop complaining. It wasn’t so long ago when students had no study time before finals. Ask any senior about their freshman year.
In the Spring of 1999, Student Senate passed a resolution encouraging the university to adopt “dead days” – two days at the end of a term designated for “no unscheduled tests or papers.” No parties, no classes, no papers and no tests – these were study days. Isn’t it nice to see such a concrete example of what a few voices in student government can accomplish for the whole student body?
Now that you know the history of dead days, show some respect for them. Lay off the booze and parties for two nights and see how much studying you can cram into 48 hours.
