ITS problems experienced campuswide

E-mail, Blackboard, locker.smu.edu, AdminImages, report.smu.edu and blog service went down Monday after the storage array went down, according to Chief Information Officer Joe Gargiulo.

Those services are connected to the storage array, which according to Gargiulo, is basically 98 hard drives that SMU uses to store information.

Gargiulo said problems with the systems had been reported Sunday night, but the storage array did not go down completely until Monday morning, between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

“All of the data was still there,” he said, clarifying that the servers just couldn’t get to it.

E-mail access was restored to all 15,000 accounts by approximately 6 p.m. Monday night. Other services were also restored by Monday night.

Gargiulo said there is no reason to suspect that the array will go down again.
