Men’s tennis went even on the road this weekend, bringing their season record to 6-4. The Mustangs are ranked No. 46 in the nation following this weekend’s play.
Saturday the Mustangs where away at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (0-6), defeating Green Bay 6-1 and continuing its six-match win streak.
SMU started out the match strong, sweeping the doubles successfully. Sophomores Artem Baradach and Bryan Griffen paired up for the first time this season, winning over Green Bay’s number one doubles team 8-3.
Junior Robin Fahgen continued his undefeated streak Saturday, defeating (6-1, 6-2) Green Bay’s No. 1 singles player, Eric Plaushines. Sophomore Adham el Effendi also remained undefeated, defeating the Green Bay opponent 7-6, 6-3.
On Sunday, the Mustangs fell to the University of Minnesota (5-1) at the Baseline Tennis Center 6-1.
The Mustang duo of juniors Robin Fahgen and Gaston Cuadranti put on a performance for SMU Sunday, defeating Minnesota’s No. 22 doubles pair of Sebastian Gallego and Dino Bilankov 8-7.
Sophomore Artem Baradach recorded the only singles victory of the day for the Mustangs, beating his opponent in a third set (3-6, 6-3, 10-5), and improving his singles record to 8-2 this season.
The Mustangs return to action in Tulsa, OK this Sunday at 2 p.m. as they face-off against No. 12 conferences foes the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
