The Mustangs won their only game of the week against conference foe Cincinnati, a 1-0 double overtime thriller. It was the team’s fourth double overtime game of the season, which improved their record to 10-2-2 on the year.
Sophomore forward Mauro Cichero scored the winning goal on a header in the box off of a throw-in by Jared Rice. Goalkeeper Michael Nelson recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
“We constantly remind the players that adversity builds character and good teams find ways to win in difficult situations,” said Head Coach Kevin Hudson when asked about the win. The team will host Tulsa on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. and then travel to USF on Saturday, Oct. 24, hoping to stay atop the conference standings.
