The South Asian Student Association at SMU hosted a Holi celebration on Dallas Hall Lawn on Thursday, March 5. It featured music, South Asian food, chalk drawing and color throwing, a tradition that leaves participants covered from head to toe in colorful powder.
Holi is a national holiday in India. The festival celebrates the arrival of spring, with the bright colors representing the upcoming harvest season. Participants of Thursday’s celebration on campus wore white to represent the fresh start that springtime brings. The color throwing took place below the steps of Dallas Hall.
