SMU Look collaborated with Stanley Korshak, a department store in Dallas, Texas, for their Spring fashion show on April 1. Live models walked around the store as students searched through different racks, trying to find the perfect outfit.
Among the students present was Monet Manesh, director of affiliate marketing for SMU Look and intern at Stanley Korshak. She explained that the fashion show was organized to promote SMU Look and Stanley Korshak’s spring collections.
“[Students] might be pleasantly surprised to see how many great brands they carry and how much beautiful clothing they carry here,” Manesh said. “It will definitely help not only as a promotion for us and SMU Look as a brand, but also for Stanley Korshak, two brands that I absolutely adore and I am so happy to be a part of.”
While shopping, students gather around to talk and enjoy refreshments and listen to the DJ at the event. Two female models wearing light, floral dresses and one male model donning a grey jacket and pants pose as cameras go off.
Having models walk around the store improves the shopping experience since shoppers can take a closer look at the details and how the clothes look worn, said Nicole Kleinknecht, co-event director at SMU Look.
“It’s a great way to shop and have it be more of an experience,” Kleinknecht said.
Although many SMU students are already clients at Stanley Korshak, reaching out to even more can help the brand grow amongst the student community.
“I think having a company that’s such a pivotal part of Dallas shopping, especially now that Neiman’s has kind of had its own struggles, I think this is a great way for them to position themselves on our demographic and appeal more to the SMU crowd that buys a lot and always needs new outfits,” Kleinknecht said.
The two models show up with their second looks, in white dresses. Despite wearing the same color, the two dresses have different patterns and textures, showing seniors that Stanley Korshak can help set them apart from others and still look beautiful at graduation.
The white dresses were special for the event to display the different options they have for graduation at the store, said Chuck Steelman, chief customer and experience officer for Stanley Korshak and adjunct professor in the journalism division at SMU.
“We’re always excited to see SMU students at Stanley Korshak because they always have great style,” Steelman said.
Besides getting to appreciate the fashion, this show was also a great opportunity for students looking to work in the fashion industry and how the planning for events goes.
“Tonight’s kind of like the launch party for the new issue of the look,” Steelman said. “So this gives students an opportunity to kind of understand how difficult it can be sometimes to get a lot of people to come to an event because people are so busy, especially right now when people are getting ready for graduation and wrapping up from spring break and just catching up from being out of town.”
