The SMU women’s golf team fired a final round of 309 on the par-72, 6,009-yard Cougar Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. this Tuesday.
SMU finished 25th out of 43 teams in the Kiawah Island Women’s Interollegiate. The Mustangs held on after a difficult opening round and went on to shoot 309s in rounds two and three.
Senior, Kate Ackerson shot 9-over at 225 for 54 holes to finish tied for 14th. After the first round, Ackerson was 4-over, but came back to shoot even in round two. On the final day she posted a 77, which put her 5-over.
Freshman, Jennifer Hooper shot SMU’s best round on the final day, shooting 74. Individually, Hooper tied for 48th at 232.
The University of Miami and Central Arkansas were part of a tie for first place. Individual medalists were Nicole Forshner of Central Arkansas and Sinead O’Sullivan of East Tennessee State at 2-over.
The Mustangs hit the road for the UNLV Invitational in Boulder City, NV on March 3.
