An SMU student was shot during an armed robbery early Saturday morning on the 5500 block of Dyer St. near Home Bar. Her friend managed to flee without injury.
Shannon Burnett, a senior marketing major, suffered a gunshot wound to the wrist after the suspects took her cell phone, purse and shoes. Courtney Bradshaw, a senior advertising major, managed to escape from the suspects before they shot Burnett.
Shortly before 2 a.m., the women were walking to their car when two unknown black males approached them. The men pointed knives at the victims and demanded all of their belongings. As they tried to break away, the men grabbed both of them, shooting Burnett. Burnett received treatment at Baylor Medical Center and was released.
Police recovered the purse, shoes and cell phone at the scene. The suspects, described as two black males in their mid-20’s, were said to be driving an older model white Cadillac. They fled the scene heading west toward northbound Central Expressway.
