Although the Mustangs led in the first quarter, the momentum dissipated as SMU fell to the East Carolina 76-47 on Saturday night in Greenville, North Carolina.
The Mustangs were unable to convert on the 18 turnovers they forced, and, ultimately, the Pirates’ 34 turnovers proved insurmountable. The Pirates recorded over 20 points in each of the final three quarters.
Freshman Johnasia Cash led the team in scoring with 11 points, followed closely by senior Klara Bradshaw’s 10 points. Bradshaw also recorded 11 rebounds in her first double-double in her SMU career.
Despite 13 attempts, senior Mikayla Reese made the only successful three-pointer of the night for the Mustangs.
SMU will look to come back stronger against Tulsa on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum.
