“He’s just making stuff up,” James Comey said about Trump during a live interview with Good Morning America.

Former FBI Director James Comey responded to several of President Donald Trump’s attacks and promoted his book release during a live interview on Good Morning America.

The live interview is one of the many interviews Comey has set up to promote the release of his book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.” Comey hopes that people read the book and better understand his opinions of Trump.

“I hope people read the book and see why the rule of law is such an important value in this country, and key to that is that the president doesn’t get to decide who goes to jail,” Comey said in the interview.

Trump stated that Comey should be arrested for his actions during his term as FBI Director. Comey did not appreciate the attack.

“That is not normal,” Comey said. “That is not OK. First of all, he’s just making stuff up. But, most importantly, the president of the United States is calling for the imprisonment of a private citizen, as he’s done for a whole lot of people who criticize him. That is not acceptable in this country.”

Public response to the book has brought controversy. Comey wrote that he may have been influenced by polls indicating Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 Presidential election while he was handling the Clinton email scandal.

“It is entirely possible,” Comey writes, “that because I was making decisions in an environment where Hillary Clinton was sure to be the next president, my concern about making her an illegitimate president by concealing the restarted investigation bore greater weight than it would have if the election appeared closer or if Donald Trump were ahead in all polls. But I don’t know.”

This statement shows inconsistency, as Comey also stresses in his book that partisans will “misconstrue” what the FBI does no matter what, and then he cops to making decisions based on partisan influence.

This adds a new consideration to Trump’s decision to fire Comey over the handling of the email investigation.
