World-renowned pianist Alessio Bax will take his audience on a journey through Italy Saturday Feb. 23 with his solo recital, “Italian Inspirations.”
The performance will feature pieces written by either Italian composers or were inspired by the country’s vibrant culture.
“There are only two composers in the program that are actually from Italy,” Bax says. “But thankfully, there’s always been great music in Italy, great art, and the country is so beautiful that it inspired lots of artists and composers.”
The SMU Artist-in-Residence will be performing works such as Bach’s arrangement of Alessandro Marcello’s oboe concerto, Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli, and compositions by Franz Liszt.
“Italian Inspirations” will be on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Owen Arts Center’s Caruth Auditorium.
