Kendric Davis and Tyson Jolly were voted to the preseason American Athletic Conference first-team and second-teams respectively on Wednesday morning.
The conference’s 11 head coaches selected ten players for the preseason AAC teams which feature Davis and Jolly as the only Mustangs chosen. They join other notable players and NBA prospects including Houston’s Caleb Mills and Eastern Carolina’s Jayden Gardner.
The coaches also ranked every team in the AAC with SMU being ranked third behind Houston and Memphis.
Davis averaged 14.2 points per game on 44.9% shooting during his sophomore season a year ago. The 5-foot-11 guard transferred from TCU after his freshman season and has started every game since while averaging nearly 35 minutes a contest. He was voted third-team all AAC last season after leading the conference in assists with 6.7 per game and being the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs.
Jolly led the Mustangs in scoring last season, averaging 14.5 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting. The versatile senior joined Davis on the all-AAC third team last season after finishing seventh in conference scoring and No. 13 in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-4 guard will aim to improve his standing on NBA draft boards during his senior season.
