You enjoy their services every day. They clean your bathrooms. They schedule your appointments at the Health Center. They update the online library catalogs. They greet you at the cash register. They landscape the campus, teach swimming classes and handle judicial code violations. They play music and run equipment for campus productions and performances.
More than 300 staffers keep SMU running daily. For some, it’s more than a pay check.
Over the next two weeks, The Daily Campus will publish a series of profiles that will dig deeper into the lives of these people. In this second installment, four reporters will take you into the worlds of Paul Hook, Janeen Vestal, Jason Biggs and Rosie McSweeney. Though you may not recognize their names, chances are you know them.
Here’s a four-day peak at what has and will be published.
Today: Jason Biggs, head sound designer and engineer for Meadows School of the Arts, spends his spare time composing.
Friday: Rosie McSweeney, a judicial hearing officer, talks about peak seasons for trouble on the Hilltop.
Tuesday: Robert Emery, senior media equipment technician for the Division of Journalism, says skills get you the job, not necessarily schooling.
Yesterday: JaneenVestal, who is a part-time pianist at Meadows School of the Arts, has seen her fair share of dance divas in her 49-year career.
