By SMU Panhellenic Council
Dear SMU Community,
The Panhellenic community would like to communicate our disgust for the discussion of minorities going through recruitment on the website Greek Rank.
Though we may never know if who posted these comments is a member of our community or not, what is most important and needs to be addressed is what was said, not who said it.
These comments are racist, offensive and exclusive, and defy and contradict each of our chapters values, creeds and principles. In the past week, we have been working with other student organizations to address these comments and this issue as a whole and we will continue to do so.
As Panhellenic sororities we exist to educate and empower women for further success. Comments like those attributed to sorority women of SMU undermine our missions and purpose entirely. Though consequences cannot be placed on an anonymous post, we clearly see this issue in our community and are dedicated to working towards finding a solution and change.
As Panhellenic women we strive to promote an inclusive recruitment process where anyone is welcome to join.
To learn more about our recruitment process, our bylaws and the creed that guides our everyday and overall behavior, please visit www.smu.edu/studentactivities/PAN.
Once again, we acknowledge the seriousness of this most unacceptable rhetoric and want to be clear that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in our community. We will work to hold any individual and our collective community to a standard of which we all can be proud.
