Get your poker skills ready. The Hyatt Regency at Union Station will host the 33rd annual “Casino Weekend” this Saturday, April 12 from 8:30 p.m. to 2.00 a.m. SMU’s Phi Delta Theta fraternity sponsors the event, and proceeds will benefit the National Meningitis Association and M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center.
Last year, the fraternity raised over $35,000 for the Ronald McDonald House.
“Every year we look ahead to surpass previous years’ contributions. With 1,200 to 1,500 expected guests, we will definitely accomplish our goal,” Michael Neary, the director of the event said.
Caroline Wagner from the National Meningitis Association is grateful that the Phi Delts suggested raising funds for her cause. Her son recently died of meningitis.
“The organization’s mission is to carry out awareness and educate the population about meningitis.” Wagner said. “College students living in dormitories are at an increased risk and they especially need to know,” she said.
Participants will each receive $1,000 in fake dealer chips to play black jack, roulette, craps, and Caribbean stud poker. Light food, two live bands, dancing and prizes will be included.
Velvet Love Box will play the first part of the event and Party on the Moon will finish playing through the early morning. Prizes to be auctioned include DVD players, MP3 players, TVs, computers and a snowboard. Prizes will be awarded to the highest bidder.
Tickets are $80 per person and $1,200 per table for 10. There will be a check-in list for tickets purchased in advance. Tickets sold at the door will be limited. For more information contact Michael Neary at (214) 768-6282.
