Dear Editor:
Title IX is one of the most discriminatory laws ever written.
While it was originally intended to help women’s sports, its biggest effect has been a negative one on men’s sports. SMU is planning on adding a women’s equestrian team.
Where was the women’s equestrian club team before this? Was there even an interest before?
Meanwhile, we have many men’s club sport teams on campus who struggle for funding, many of which have athletes who are just as athletic as the ones our athletic department supports.
Many schools have to cut prominent men’s teams in order to comply with this inane law.
If you take a survey on this campus I think you will find there are more men who would be interested in playing sports than women. Title XI would make 55% of our athletes women if we were fully complied.
This law is terrible for college sports and needs to be rethought.
To all the male club sports on campus: I feel your pain today.
