The sun is shining, and so are the dancers of the Meadows School of the Arts.
Apparently, this year’s Brown Bag was just the beginning.
Wednesday in the Bob Hope Theater, spring will spring for a second time this season as dancers prance, plie and pirouette to the rhythm of musical accompaniment.
The contemporary piece, “Diamond Sutra,” choreographed by SMU artist-in-residence Max Stone, opens the concert.
“Diamond Sutra” is said to be galvanized by the renowned large-scale sculpture artist James Surls. Surls’ artwork is on display in the Meadows Museum until April 20.
“Lacrymosa d’Amore,” a ballet originally choreographed by Edward Stierle, follows the modern work and is accompanied by parts of Mozart’s “Requiem.”
If the recent success of the movie Chicago is any indicator of how much of a crowd-pleaser Broadway shows can be, then the finale of The Hope Show, “Putting on the Glitz,” is certain to draw oohs and ahhs.
This year’s show features a varied compilation of contemporary, modern and ballet dance pieces running Wednesday to Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and $6 for students.
