Nothing “bootiful” about “Booty and the Breast”
Dear Editor:
As a student who reads and enjoys your newspaper daily, I was appalled, to say the least, at the column entitled “Booty and the Breast” printed in your Oct. 29 issue.
The column was dirty, chauvinistic and downright degrading to all women.
In addition, it was degrading to the male gender as a whole and to those men who do not possess these sexist viewpoints. Castle says to flaunt the “booty” and the “breast.” What happened to showing off the assets of your mind, your intelligence or talents? What happened to respecting a girl or woman?
The only thing worse than the guys who hold this narrow-minded opinion is the fact that girls actually listen and believe their views. No one should have to lower their self-worth and respect by flaunting their body in order to attract members of the opposite sex.
As a 21st century publication, one would think that concrete writings of stereotypical gender roles and characteristics would be obsolete.
I would hope that in the future, Castle and the rest of The Daily Campus would think twice about writing and printing such an offensive article or column.
