This weekend you can get a great new hairstyle while helping support a good cause. Two Dallas salons, Warren Wilkes Salon and Steven Maxx Salon, will be hosting “Cut for Consciousness.” They will donate the proceeds of service sales during the event to the Women’s Museum general education fund.
The Women’s Museum in Fair Park is the nation’s only comprehensive women’s museum. It showcases the accomplishments and achievements of American women and their impact on shaping American History.
The Ronya Kozmetsky Institute will also receive funding for its hands-on educational experience through its 28-station computer lab.
Jonathan Van Voorhees, the founder of the event, first got the idea after visiting the museum with his two daughters.
“It was such an empowering experience for them,” he said. “It’s one of those from the heart kind of things.”
The event will take place on May 4 from 1-5 p.m. Haircuts, styles, color and highlights will all be included in the proceeds. Gift certificates and products will be given away during the event.
This is the fundraiser’s first year, but Van Voorhees, a stylist for 25 years, says he plans to continue with the event regardless of this year’s success.
When told about the event, sophomore CCPA major Chelsea Holden said she thought it sounded like a fabulous idea.
“Everyone always feels better after getting a new haircut,” Holden said. “It would be even better if you could tell your parents it was for charity,” she said.
