Some Americans, no matter how few they are, are anxious aboutnext week’s Iowa Caucuses, when democrats will have a betteridea of their nomination. For months the candidates have debated, particularly about Iraq. Two in particular have the idiotic notionthat leaving the country now is the best solution.
Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton have and are campaigning thatAmerican involvement in Iraq should stop and all troops should comehome.
What these two candidates don’t seem or don’t wantto realize that the United States has a lot of baggage in theregion. Instead of suggesting packing tips to American troops andofficials, Kucinich and Sharpton should suggest extended visits toreconstruction destinations.
If the United States leaves Iraq what will happen? All thevarious factions will probably fight amongst themselves. Then theymight come after the United States when they are finished.
Sharpton, Kucinich and their campaigns need to come-up withbetter ways to distinguish themselves from Republicans. For over ayear, Americans have heard many Democrats dissent against going towar. Now, Americans want to hear solutions mutually beneficial toAmericans and Iraqis.
Sharpton and Kucinich only discredit themselves as realcandidates if they cannot provide a feasible solution to one of thebiggest issues facing the next president. Americans wonder whatsolutions they may come up with in office. Small issues, which ifnot solved properly could fester into catastrophic problems in thefuture.
Then maybe members of the Sharpton and Kucinich campaigns haveconsidered the notion that their respective candidate won’tmake it to the White House. So, they could be running RalphNader-like awareness campaigns.
Awareness campaigns are good only when they inform people aboutways to better their lives. These campaigns are not good if theyare offering problem runaway tips.
When arguing an Iraq exodus, Kucinich and Sharpton are alsoappealing to Americans’ emotions. This is a cheap ploy toattract family members of troops currently in Iraq and those whohave died so far. These families don’t want theirrelatives’ hard work and or deaths to be in vain. Sharptonand Kucinich’s vanity should not be supported.
If Sharpton and Kucinich want support, they need to use theirplatforms for practical solutions to America’s problems.Continuing to provide rants that won’t produce results onlyhurts Americans.
