The Men’s golf team will have the privilege this weekend of playing at one of the most prestigious courses in America for their second tournament of the year.
Friday kicks off the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Not only does the course looking appealing but also with numerous teams inside the top 25 including SMU, 13th, Washington, fourth, and UCLA, sixth, the competition will be extremely stiff.
Head Coach Josh Gregory certainly sees the benefit to playing this type of event so early on in the year.
“We are very excited to play at one of the finest golf resorts in the world against a very strong field,” Gregory said.
One aspect, other than the competition, that is being widely brought up with this event is the weather conditions and style of course.
Bandon Dunes is wide open, meaning it is extremely exposed to the wind. The forecast calls for high wind gusts and the temperature to be somewhat chilly. However, Gregory argues even if the conditions are horrible that’s not necessarily a bad thing so early on in the year.
“It will be a great challenge playing in the cold and wind, and especially on a links-style course,” Gregory said.” Anytime you can play outside your comfort zone it makes you a better player. This is a great opportunity for us to get better and start our four events over the next month heading into the postseason.”
