Fall 2020 Contemporary Art Exhibitions: The Must See List for Students

These ten Dallas-based contemporary art galleries provide a wide range of art. Whether a fan of mixed media or a photography enthusiast, there is undoubtedly something for everyone. Be sure to check out the galleries listed below with friends, family, or even by yourself, for a fun-filled afternoon or weekend this fall.

While many galleries have resumed in-person visits, others are opting for virtual experiences or by appointment only instead. Do not let that deter you — visit the gallery’s website prior to making plans.

1. Erin Cluely Gallery – This Dallas-based contemporary art gallery focuses on vibrant emerging and mid-career artists from both Texas and the East Coast. There are exhibitions ranging in mediums from painting, sculpture, photography, and elaborate installations.

2. Conduit – Conduit represents a vast majority of contemporary artists, from Jeff Baker to Annabel Daou, and many others, showcasing how works made of different materials and by different artists can communicate with one another in the same gallery space.

3. Cris Worley – Since 2010, Cris Worley has brought thought-provoking works created by a variety of contemporary artists to the Dallas area, highlighting inventive individuals such as William Cannings, Celia Eberle, and Anna Elise Johnson.

4. Galleri Urbane – In 2001, just two years after its creation, Gallery Urbane pioneered a successful pop-up exhibition in Marfa, Texas. Today, the gallery is situated in the Dallas Design District and draws attention to numerous artists such as Jósef Csató, Stephen D’Onofrio, and Rachel Hellmann.

5. Talley Dunn Gallery – Representing David Bates, Natasha Bowdoin, Joseph Havel, and many more artists, Talley Dunn Gallery expands the minds of its patrons through its diverse art experience of both sculpture, mixed media, and paint.

6. Barry Whistler Gallery – With past exhibitions featuring artists such as Otis Jones, Allison V. Smith, and Stephen Mueller, Barry Whistler Gallery is no stranger to displaying thought-provoking works, ranging from installations to photography.

7. Ro2 Art Gallery – Whether browsing work virtually on their website or at their Artsy page, Ro2 Art Gallery ensures innovative artworks can be viewed by any individual whose curiosity will only be satisfied by an afternoon spent looking at contemporary art.

8. Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden – Founded in 1957, Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden serves as a pillar in the Dallas art community. Whether the artist on display is local or international, Valley House prides itself on delivering exhibitions with quality artworks and an exceptional experience for all to enjoy.

9. PDNB Gallery – Committed to showcasing photo-centered art to the Dallas community, PDNB Gallery focuses largely on creating exhibitions centered around 20th century regional, local, and international artists.

10. The Warehouse – Created by Howard and Cindy Rachofsky, as well as the late Vernon Faulconer, The Warehouse provides a fresh perspective on contemporary art to the Dallas community. The 18,000 square feet of exhibition space not only houses intriguing works by a variety of artists, but is also used to facilitate tours, dialogues, and educational programming for students, families, and individuals alike with a passion for art.
