SMU tops TCU 2-0

A pair of second half goals from Shelby Redman and Courtney Smith propelled SMU over TCU 2-0 on Thursday night at Westcott field.

SMU drew first blood with Redman taking advantage of a rebound, set up by Smith’s long free kick attempt.

Smith’s ball was knocked down by TCU goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold, and ended up in front of Redman who tapped it in for the goal. Redman lead the Mustangs this year with five goals.

Smith’s free kick would go down as an assist; giving her 22 for her career and moving her into a tie for 10th all-time at SMU. She is also tied for ninth among active players in NCAA in career assists.

Smith added an insurance goal about 20 minutes after Redman’s tally. It was the first time she scored since Nov. 2, 2011.

Goalkeeper Shannon Moroney picked up her second career, solo shut out performance. She registered two saves for the match.

The Mustangs now sit at 4-3 in 2013 as TCU falls to 2-4-1. SMU’s next match will be against Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. at Westcott Field on Monday.
