Men’s tennis to host VCU

The No. 42 SMU men’s tennis team heads into its ninth dual match of the season with a 4-4 record. The Mustangs host Virginia Commonwealth University this Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Rams of VCU are No. 21 in ITA rankings with a 10-4 record. VCU fell to North Carolina 4-2 last week with the help of No. 1 singles player Peter Olsak who managed to top No. 31 Ben Carlotti of North Carolina. The Rams have one ranked player on their roster, No. 54 Arnaud Le Cloerec, who has been absent from play since VCU fell to Minnesota in early February. It is not known whether he will play in the match against SMU.

Olsak holds a 3-2 record in dual matches this season and is 4-3 in doubles with Le Cloerec. Sebastian Derrider holds an 8-2 singles record, the best on the VCU squad. The junior is 4-1 at No. 4 singles and 2-1 at No. 5. He holds a 7-1 doubles record with partner Sergi Arumi.

The Mustangs spent last weekend in Minnesota taking on the host and Iowa State. The Mustangs went 1-1 on the road trip before hosting No. 4 Baylor, losing to the Bears 7-0. No. 1 singles player Alex Skrypko returned to the lineup after a four-week absence and is expected to play again this weekend.

The men’s tennis team heads to Fort Worth on Wednesday to face cross-town rival TCU.
