Four underage students under suspicion of drinking

Virginia-Snider residents found in possession of alcohol, referred to judicial officer

Early Sunday morning two SMU resident assistants entered the Virginia-Snider residence hall and detected the smell of marijuana and alcohol on the first floor.

According to an SMU police report, upon entering the room in suspicion, the RAs found evidence of underage drinking and phoned the SMU police.

The hall director on duty arrived and found in plain view 3 bottles of vodka and a bottle of Kaluha. Another bottle of vodka was discovered when a suspect opened the refrigerator to acquire another object.

All of the suspects were identified by the hall director and the responding officer.

There were a total of seven people in the room, four of whom were SMU students. The other three are high school students not affiliated with SMU.

No one present was of legal drinking age.

When the responding officer arrived, no search was conducted of the room and no smell of marijuana was detected.

The suspects, charged with suspicion of minor in possession of alcohol, are being referred to the judicial officer. The three high school students were found not to have been consuming alcohol.

The case is now closed.
