With a password and user name obtained from the Office of Alumni Relations SMU alumni can now connect to the university and one another through the Internet.
The Office of Alumni Relations launchedPerunaNet.net, SMU’s alumni connection, in April 2001. The Web site provides up-to-date contact information for SMU alumni. Currently there are more than 65,000 alumni in the database with more than 3,000 registered users.
PerunaNet makes it possible for alumni to update information about themselves and their lives while networking, which might not have been accessible previously. The name PerunaNet was chosen in the spirit of the SMU mascot that was named “Peruna” in 1932.
PerunaNet, an online alumni directory, can be researched alphabetically, geographically, by class or by a combination of these options. The Alumni Career Network, another feature on the site allows alumni to register to volunteer at SMU events, assist fellow alumni with career guidance and advice, and register to network with fellow alumni.
E-mail forwarding on PerunaNet allows alumni to create a virtual alumni email forwarding address.
“We are currently in the process of launching an additional service called the online community which will include a variety of homepages for alumni chapters nationwide, alumni associate groups and many more schools and alumni organizations,” said Jennifer Rotter in the Office of Alumni Relations.
SMU students about to graduate should contact the Office of Alumni Relations for an access number to get connected on PerunaNet.
