SMU’s Christina Mueller and Kylie Spurgeon qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday after finishing third and fourth, respectively, at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla.

Mueller, a junior, finished with a toss of 52.18 meters in the event’s finals. Spurgeon’s throw of 49.3 meters put her in front of the fifth place finisher by only one-half meter.

On Friday, Mueller and Spurgeon finished first and fourth, respectively, at the North Texas Classic in Denton.

Also on Friday, freshman Silje Fjortoft broke the meet record in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 9:32.78. Fjortoft, who won the Stanford Invite on April 4, was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week on April 9 and has qualified for the NCAA Regionals, which will take place May 30-31 in Fayetville, Ark.

Senior Rachel Forish won the 1,500-meter run Friday with a time of 4:51.68.

The Mustangs will begin competing Thursday in the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
