Turkey taste test

If you’re stuck in the residence halls this Thanksgiving, that’s no reason to give up the traditional turkey dinner. Forget basting hams and smashing yams, our group of DC taste testers found plenty of traditional pre-made dinners with all the fixings in the supermarket freezer. So whether you’re spending Thursday by yourself or just want to trim the fat off prep time, check out the ratings below to select the best turkey entree. Ratings run from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest.

From turkey soup to turkey cobbler, the Daily Campus taste testers braved mired murky gravy, crunchy stuffing and raisins (at least we think they were raisins) – all until our last meal, Swanson Hungry-Man turkey breast.

By far the only frozen dinner that provided anything close to the amount of food required for an authentic Thanksgiving feast, this dinner was the only one to hit the balanced meal mark. And most importantly, those peas, cobbler, turkey and potatoes actually tasted good.

“Bling bling. I could eat the whole thing … and umm, I actually did,” A&E Editor Allison Flowers said.

And while Marie Callender ain’t got nothing on Mom’s home cooking, you shouldn’t go starving if you’re stuck in the residence halls this Thanksgiving. Just turn on the microwave, unbuckle your belt, close your eyes and pretend.

Mmm….now that’s good eats.
