Lady Mustangs secure a win after long losing streak

After losing 14 straight games, the Mustangs finally get a ‘W.’

SMU wen on 17-2 run in the second half to beat UCF, 70-60, at the CFE Arena Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Alicia Froling and The Mustangs (5-17, 1-10 The American) took over the final 4:30 of the game. Froling, once again demonstrated she can be a dominant force in there AAC with acareer-high 27 points ( second-most ever by a freshman at SMU).

Her 27 points were the most by a freshman since Leann Shaw had 31 against UTSA on Feb. 2, 1983.

Froling also tallied 10 rebounds- earning her fifth double-double of the season and her third in the last four games.

The Mustangs only turned the ball over 12 times– a season low– shot 50 percent from the field in the second half.

Zykira Lewis led UCF (7-16, 3-9) with 21 points. Fifi Ndour recorded 10 rebounds and both Brittni Montgomery (13) and Aliyah Gregory (12) scored in double-digits for the Knights.
