Beck continues to disappoint

Beck

Modern Guilt

Rating: 4.5/10

Beck Hansen’s 1atest full-length release is pretty much what one would expect from album number 10. The record acts as a greatest hits soundtrack of sorts, except without the “hits.”

There are plenty of tracks that sound like they’d fit perfectly on past albums, and that’s just the problem. “Modern Guilt” has no sense of uniqueness or direction.

Beck seems like he’s just been going through the motions with albums since 2005’s prolific “Sea Change.”

Gnarls Barkley member and mastermind Danger Mouse lends his infamous production style to the album, and it’s definitely a positive. Too bad it’s not enough to save the terribly boring CD.

One thing Beck got right this time around is album length. “Modern Guilt” clocks in at a little over 30 minutes.

At least it’s over fairly quickly.
