Crowd enjoys second annual Jordan Mann Alumi Game (Stuart Palley)
Some of the SMU men’s soccer alumni that participated in the second annual Jordan Mann Alumni Game have not played competitively for over twenty years. However, these players showed few signs of rust as they sprinted after balls, scored goals from long distance and even made a slide tackle or two.
The alumni game was in honor of former SMU men’s soccer player Jordan Mann, who passed away in May of 2007 from natural causes.
Before the game, men’s soccer head coach Tim McClements addressed the fans who attended the game about the state of SMU soccer. He delivered a speech that encouraged better alumni relations in the future, previewed the upcoming season, and described the significant, positive impact of Jordan Mann on the SMU soccer program.
The atmosphere of the event was fun and light as the alumni broke up into teams based on graduation years. There were two fields: one field was deemed the “competitive” field and featured mostly younger graduates, while the other field featured “seasoned” players.
