SMU Police issued an off-campus crime alert after a female SMU student reported being sexually assaulted at an off-campus location in the early morning of Friday, Nov. 12.

The student met the suspect at Zephyrs Patio Lounge, on the 5600 block of Sears Street off of Greenville Avenue. The two left Zephyrs for Cosmo’s Bar in the Lakewood area of Dallas. On the drive back to campus, the man pulled his car over and sexually assaulted the student.

The suspect, who drives a dark-colored sport utility vehicle, is described as a white male in his 30s with brown hair in a buzz cut and a scruffy beard. He is about 6′ 3″  and 180 pounds.

Police recommend a number of safety rules, including being aware of surroundings, using the buddy system and traveling with friends. They also advise to avoid being alone with strangers and to take self-defense courses.

Police ask that students call the SMU Police Department at 214-768-3333 or 911 to report any crime or suspicious activity.
