The women’s soccer team is riding a six game winning streak, including its first two games in Conference-USA action. The Mustangs have outscored their opponents 29-11, including seven shutouts, five recorded by Ashley Gunter.
Olivia O’Rear had another outstanding weekend, scoring three goals and picking up one assist. O’Rear leads the team with nine goals and 19 points. Sixteen of the 19 non-goalkeeper Mustangs have picked up points on the season, and two players are in double digits.
SMU’s only opponent this weekend is Tulsa. The Mustangs defeated Tulsa last season 2-1 in Dallas.
The Golden Hurricane enters Friday’s game with a record of 5-6 and a 1-1 conference record.
Freshman Megan Cash leads Tulsa in scoring with four goals so far this season. The Golden Hurricane has narrowly outscored its opponents 17-15 and has recorded three shutouts.
Tulsa and SMU share four opponents this season. The Mustangs defeated all of them, while Tulsa has only won two.
The Mustangs only losses were against top five-ranked team, including the No. 1 team in the nation. Seventeen of the Mustangs’ 29 goals have occured during this six-game winning streak. SMU’s offense has turned it up, while the SMU defense has shutdown the opponents. Gunter has posted a save percentage of 80.7 percent, only allowing 11 goals while facing 57 shots.
The Mustangs will take their streak and perfect conference record to Tulsa, Okla. Friday at 7 p.m.
