Faculty members gathered at the 2008 Spring General Faculty meeting in the Hughes-Trigg Theater yesterday. The meeting began with Faculty Senate President Gary Evans speaking about several new additions to the staff during last semester.
“This academic year we welcomed many new administrators,” Evans said. “All have met or will meet with the Faculty Senate.”
New staff members include Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Paul W. Ludden, Vice President of Finance Christine Casey and Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Lori S. White. Evans said the Faculty Senate is committed to “making SMU a private university of the highest quality.”
In addition, Dr. Dinesh Rajan and Dr. Serge Frolov received the Golden Mustang Outstanding Faculty award. The award for junior faculty members on the tenure-track is worth $1,000.
Rajan works as an assistant professor in the electrical engineering department and holds a B. Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, and both an M.S. and a Ph.D. from Rice University.
Frolov is the Nate and Ann Levine Endowed Chair in Jewish studies and assistant professor of religious studies. He holds a M.A. and Ph.D. from Leningrad University and a M.A. and Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University.
Director of the Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility Tom Mayo was honored with the President’s Associates Outstanding Faculty Award. The award, worth $1000, is given to tenured faculty members.
Mayo works as an associate professor at Dedman School of Law and is an adjunct associate professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He earned a B.A. from Amherst College and a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law.
