With just two games remaining before the Conference USA Tournament in Memphis next week, the Mustangs will look to add to three conference victories.
SMU has had some bad luck this season, as well as just plain bad games.
The two 15-point losses to Houston, the 37-point loss to Memphis and the 29-point loss to UTEP were not pretty games.
But the Mustangs lost six games by under 10 points and showed promise. In four of those six games, the Mustangs had chances to either tie the game or win on shots in the final 20 seconds.
SMU has played the last three games with seven scholarship players and has leaned heavily on five of them.
Bamba Fall will miss his fifth consecutive game due to a broken bone in his left hand. Devon Pearson, who has missed the last three games, practiced last night and his status has moved from questionable to probable for tonight’s game against the Golden Hurricane.
Ike Ofoegbu has been the backbone of the Mustangs over the past five games, where he has a double-double in all five.
Ofoegbu has gotten help. Jon Killen scored a career-high 20 points against UTEP, and Donatas Rackauskas earned his first career double-double against Rice. But the Mustangs haven’t been able to do anything with it.
Returning home and the possible return of Pearson could be what SMU needs.
Tip-off against Tulsa is tonight at 7 p.m. at Moody Coliseum.
