Developer and SMU trustee Ross Perot Jr. will give the commencement address at SMU’s graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 20.
“He is a great role model for SMU graduates as they go out into the world to pursue their own career goals,” said President R. Gerald Turner in a statement to The Daily Campus.
This will be the second speech Perot gives on campus this semester. He was the featured speaker at President Turner’s Leadership Summit on March 29.
Perot is currently the chairman of Hillwood Development Corporation, which he founded in 1988. Some of Hillwood’s largest projects are the development of Alliance Airport, located north of Ft. Worth by the Texas Motor Speedway and the Victory development around the American Airlines Center. Perot is also chairman of the board of Perot Systems Corporation, which is father founded in 1988.
Perot has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1996. He serves on the Athletics, Buildings and Grounds, and Finance committees. He also currently serves on the Executive Board of the Cox School of Business.
The commencement exercises will be the 91st for SMU. Nearly 2,000 degrees will be awarded at ceremonies that weekend. Perot will speak at 9:30 a.m. on May 20 in Moody Coliseum.
